Acupuncture & Chinese Medicine on Salt Spring Island

Ancient medicine for modern health.

Traditional Chinese Medicine offers something Western approaches often miss: a framework for understanding the body as a connected whole. Acupuncture, moxibustion, cupping, and Gua Sha complement my other modalities and often bring relief when nothing else has.

Acupuncture works by stimulating specific points along the body's meridian pathways, triggering the nervous system to reduce pain, calm inflammation, regulate digestion, and balance hormones. Modern research supports what practitioners have known for thousands of years: it's effective for a wide range of conditions, from chronic pain to anxiety to fertility support.

Beyond acupuncture, I integrate several TCM techniques into treatment. Moxibustion uses heat from burning mugwort to stimulate circulation and strengthen immune function. Cupping releases deep muscle tension and promotes blood flow to areas of stagnation. Gua Sha uses gentle scraping to ease inflammation and improve lymphatic drainage.

What makes TCM particularly valuable is its diagnostic framework. By assessing pulse quality, tongue appearance, and constitutional patterns, I gain insight into imbalances that standard lab work might miss. This allows me to create more targeted treatment plans that address the root cause, not just symptoms.
